This week I want to share with you some of the scriptures that I use to declare God’s word over my life (almost) every day. They help me to stay focused and keep my eyes on Jesus, draw closer to God for a continued revelation of who He is and who I am in Him, and to overcome some of the stumbling blocks that prevent me from walking out my purpose every day.
When you personalize scripture, you can gain a deeper understanding of its meaning and you’re more likely to remember and apply it. I’ve included personalized versions of each scripture that you can use (if you choose).
“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
Matthew 6:33 ESV
I use Matthew 6:33 to remind me of what comes first. To seek God’s heart daily to find out what heaven is seeing, saying, and doing so that I can do it too.
Matthew 6:33 Personalized: LORD, today I seek first your Kingdom and its righteousness. I will not worry about all the other things that I could be doing but I trust promise that when I seek to do what aligns with Your Kingdom, you will take care of everything else.
“You shall be careful therefore to do as the Lord your God has commanded you. You shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left. You shall walk in all the way that the Lord your God has commanded you, that you may live, and that it may go well with you, and that you may live long in the land that you shall possess.”
Deuteronomy 5:32-33
Deuteronomy 5:32-33 helps me to keep my eyes on God allowing Him to lead me like He led the Israelites by cloud during the day and by fire at night. It reminds me that obedience is the key to possessing, prospering, and living in the land that He has promised me.
Deuteronomy 5:32-33 Personalized: I walk in obedience to all that the Lord, my God has commanded me so that I will live and prosper and prolong my days in the land that I am possessing.
“I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints,…”
Ephesians 1:16-23
I ask Father every day to give me spiritual wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him so that I can know Him more. And as I get to know Him more He will enlighten and open the eyes of my heart so that I would have a further revelation of His calling on my life.
Ephesians 1:16-23 Personalized: Father, give me spiritual wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of You. Open the eyes of my heart so that I may know the hope of Your calling on my life.
“Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.”
Ephesians 4:29 ESV
I want when I speak to others, it lifts them up not tears them down. This isn’t easy and the temptation to respond to everything on social media is always there. But I want my words to draw others to Jesus not push them away from Him. Granted there are times that call for “brutal” honesty, but I think that can still be done with loving words. I’m asking Holy Spirit to help me get better at this.
Ephesians 4:29 Personalized: Holy Spirit, help me to speak only what is beneficial for building others up according to the need. Let no harmful word come out of my mouth and let my words give grace to those who hear them.
“For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth, it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.”
Isaiah 55:10-11 ESV
I declare that the words the LORD spoke over me when He created me, will not return to Him void and that I will accomplish my purpose and all that I was created to do. What He has said about me is settled in heaven and it shall be done.
Isaiah 55:10-11 Personalized: Father, Your Word concerning me has gone out from Your mouth. It will not return to You void. I will accomplish all that You intend and succeed in all You have sent me to do, according to that Word.
“Hear instruction and be wise, and do not neglect it. Blessed is the one who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting beside my doors. For whoever finds me finds life and obtains favor from the Lord”
Proverbs 8:33-35 ESV
Every day I listen to his instructions and do my best to carry them out wisely. There is life, blessing, and favor when I listen and watch for Him daily
Proverbs 8:33-35 Personalized: Father, every day I will watch daily at Your doorpost and wait daily at Your gates. I listen to Your instructions and I am wise to carry them out. I have found life in You and I obtain favor from You, my LORD.
“But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.”
Ephesians 2:4-7 ESV
I am seated in heavenly places with Jesus. That means that no matter what is going on here on Earth, I am able to get a heavenly perspective.
Ephesians 2:4-7 Personalized: Father, because of Your great love and mercy for me, You have raised me up and made me alive together with Jesus. I am now seated with Him in heavenly places which means that I have access to a heavenly view of what is happening here on Earth and I can operate from that perspective.
“I keep my lifestyle free from the love of money, and I am content with what I have. For You, My Lord, have said, “You will never leave me nor forsake me”
Hebrews 13:5 ESV
Business is about making money but if you lose focus you can quickly fall into the trap of worshiping money rather than God. This verse helps me to remember that it’s not the business or money I rely on but God. I can be content with what I have and God will never leave me nor forsake me (whether I have money or not)
Hebrews 13:5 Personalized: Holy Spirit, help me to keep my life free from the love of money and to be content with what I have. Even when I don’t have money, I don’t have to worry because You promise never to leave me nor forsake me. You are well-able and always willing to provide everything I need.
“And going out about the third hour he saw others standing idle in the marketplace, and to them he said, ‘You go into the vineyard too, and whatever is right I will give you… And when those hired about the eleventh hour came, each of them received a denarius. Now when those hired first came, they thought they would receive more, but each of them also received a denarius.”
Matthew 20:3-4; 9-10
This verse reminds me that I do not have to subscribe to the hustle-and-grind culture. I can serve the LORD on the basis of whatever is right. Whether I put in a full day’s work (start early at the third hour) or half a day’s work (late at the 11th hour), when I am operating within His grace, His can give me the same rewards.
Matthew 20:3-4; 9-10 Personalized: Father, prevent me from succumbing to the hustle and grind. Help me to always operate from within Your grace rather than by the world’s standard of productivity.
“For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.”
2 Timothy 1:17 ESV
Stepping out of your comfort zone to follow God can be scary. There are many fears that can hold you back. I use this scripture to remind me that the spirit of fear is never of God. He did not give it to me and I will not entertain it. Instead, I operate out of a spirit of love, power, and self-control (sound mind).
2 Timothy 1:17 Personalized: I do not operate from a spirit of fear because the spirit of fear is not of God. Instead, I operate from a spirit of love, power, and self-control.
