And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you.
Psalm 9:10 ESV
A couple of weeks ago, I had an idea for a devotion. I had posted on the topic sometime in 2020/2021 so I started scrolling through my Facebook posts from back then.
First, I have to say it was a bittersweet experience.
As I scrolled through those posts, I traveled through a range of emotions from amusement to heartbreak as I was reminded of the people who thought Corona beer had something to do with “the virus” and saw responses from those who are no longer here.
I also haven’t found the post I was looking for (yet).
But I did find this little tidbit and I want to I’d share it with you. I hope it encourages you to trust God even when it seems like what He’s said to you isn’t going to happen.
Ok, so here in the Caribbean, we put our meat in lime and salt to clean it. Sometimes a lime seed will escape and end up in the food. I ALWAYS get the lime seed.
When my mom was alive, sometimes she’d bake a cake and a little piece of eggshell would get away. Guess what. I ALWAYS got the eggshell.
And sometimes when my dad makes soup he’ll put a bit of fresh hot pepper in it and forget to remove it. Guess who ALWAYS got the hot pepper? ME!
So one day, I bought a whole rotisserie chicken for dinner. As my daughter was portioning it out for everyone, she noticed a little pepper seed on one of the drumsticks. And Holy Spirit said to her, “Your mom is going to get the pepper seed.” But she didn’t remember to tell me at the time.
Fast forward. I’m almost done eating and she comes to me and says, “Mom, did you have the drumstick? There was a pepper seed on it and the LORD said you would get it.” I told her no, I didn’t get it and by this point, I had already picked the bone of that drumstick clean, so I just shrugged it off.
But I wondered about it for a minute. Did she hear correctly (she usually does)? And I mean, I ALWAYS get the pepper seed, right?
Well, a few minutes later, I’m on the phone and I feel something stuck in my tooth. Without thinking, I flick it out and bite on it. IT’S THE STUPID PEPPER SEED!
I chuckled a little at the LORD’s sense of humor, but then I saw the lesson.
Are you standing on God’s word for something but haven’t yet seen Him move? Maybe you thought you heard Him clearly but now you’re not sure.
I just want to remind you that, even though it may not look like it, what God says will ALWAYS come to pass.
Let’s hope He doesn’t use a pepper seed to remind you. 🤣
