And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.
Matt 22:37 ESV
When asked which of the commandments was the greatest, Jesus responded, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind”. But have you ever wondered what that looks like in our day-to-day lives?
I did. And I didn’t find out until I accepted Father’s love for me and began to have a relationship with Him that wasn’t based on fear. It wasn’t until I started to live every day in the Father’s unconditional love that I began to understand that He didn’t want a perfect heart. He just wanted that one I had – even if it was “deceitful above all things and desperately sick” (Jeremiah 17:9).
He wanted me to give it to Him so that He could give me a new one. It was only through Him that my heart could become clean (Ps 51:10). Daddy’s unconditional love alone made me want to love Him back with every single fiber of my being. With all my heart, even if that heart needed major improvement (honestly, I think He gets a raw deal).
But the strange thing I noticed is that when I gave Him my heart, my soul and my mind began to follow. The desires of my heart began to mimic the desires of His heart. I served Him because I loved Him (heart), not because I feared punishment (soul). And I wanted to read His Word more to learn more about Him and His Kingdom (mind).
Have you given your heart to the Father? He doesn’t care what your heart looks like right now. He wants you to surrender it to Him so that He can give you a completely new one. You can trust Him, give it to Him today.
Prayer: Father, today I surrender my heart to you. I know that it is flawed but I also know that only you can make it into something beautiful. Please create in me a new heart as I seek to love you with all my heart, soul, and mind.
