“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'”
John 14:6 ESV
“I love you, Daddy!”
As I stood immersed in the Sunday morning worship session, those words, uttered by the lady standing next to me, jolted me back to the present moment. Standing there, I realized that though I had given my life to Jesus more than ten years before, I had never called God “Daddy”. Jesus was my Lord and Savior and I knew the Holy Spirit lived inside of me, but I couldn’t relate to God as a Father. I felt like I was missing out.
Then, I remembered what Jesus said in John 14:6. “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” I decided to take that literally. If I wanted to know the Father, I needed to ask Jesus to show me the way. He was the only one who could.
So I told Jesus that I wanted to understand who God was to me as a Father and I asked Him to show me the way. And that was the beginning of my journey to the heart of the Father where I found His unconditional love for me… and my God-given identity and purpose.
The first step to finding your God-given purpose is finding your true identity. Your true identity can only be found in the heart of God, the Father, where you were imagined and created (Ps 139: 14-16). If you want to know God as a Father and build a deeper relationship with Him, ask Jesus to show you the way.
Do you know Jesus as your Savior? Can you relate to God as a Father?
ACTION STEPS:
If you would like to accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior, just tell Him. Tell Him that you believe that He is the Son of God, that He died for your sins and was risen, and ask Him to forgive all your sins. It’s best that you do this from your heart in your own words, but if you need a guide, you can use the following prayer:
“Jesus, I believe that You are the Son of God and that you died and was risen for my sins. I confess that I am a sinner. I repent of my sins and accept Your forgiveness of those sins. Please come into my life and be my Lord and Savior. Amen.”
If you’re already a follower of Jesus, but can’t relate to God as a Father, as Him to show you the way. You can use the following prayer as a guide:
“Jesus, I love you and I know that you are my Lord and Savior, but I don’t understand how to relate to God as my Father. You said that you are the only way to the Father. Please show me how to build a deeper relationship with God the Father so that I can get to know His heart. Amen.”
