Who are you? When someone asked me that question my answer would often be, “I’m a Christian.” Or, “I’m a worship leader”. Sometimes it would be “I’m a software developer.” It took me a long time to understand that’s not who I am.
When I started developing a deeper relationship with God, I understood that His love for me is unconditional. That means, that if I stopped being a worship leader, a software developer, or even a Christian, He would still love me the same way He loves me now. In the secret place, I began to see myself through His eyes, as simply His daughter; a daughter of The King… and I AM Loved.
Psalm 139: 15 says that you were formed in the secret place, carefully and skillfully shaped from nothing into something (paraphrase TPT version). Father formed you in the secret place and in the secret place (intimacy with Him) is where you find out who you are.
The Amplified version says that you were intricately and skillfully formed as if embroidered with many colors. You are a work of art. A unique work of art. You are special, there is no one else on this earth like you.
Your identity is in your Heavenly Father. He created You and placed it there. God shaped your identity within the depths of His heart and He will reveal it to you In the secret place. That is your true identity.
When you know your true identity, you understand you are not what you do and you do not have to earn God’s love. You see yourself as a daughter and not a servant. Your identity is based solely on who God says you are, not who others say you are or even who YOU say you are (if it doesn’t line up with what God is saying about you).
There is a book in heaven about you (Psalm 139:16). When God created you, He decided who you would become and wrote everything He created you to do. That is your true identity and your God-given purpose (more on that tomorrow). That is who He sees when He looks at you. Not who you are not, but who He created you to be. Can you see it too? If not, ask Him to show you.
PRAYER:
Father, my true identity lies in you because when You created me, You decided who I would be. Help me understand that my identity does not lie in what I do for You or anyone else, or who others say I am. I am only who You say I am. Help me see myself through your eyes and to love myself as You do.
